. . . and Evans is still fuming two days later

-

Come Monday and Steve Evans was still letting off steam about the controversial moments at Home Park.

He claimed Peterborough United had received ‘great sympathy throughout football’ after Liam Shephard was shown a straight red card following a clash with Graham Carey.

And Evans also claimed the Pilgrims midfielder was going for an Oscar following the collision and that referee, Craig Hicks, admitted after seeing a video replay of the incident, that no card should have been shown.

Announcing that Posh had appealed the red card, Evans added: “It has to be said, we have had great sympathy throughout football since Saturday evening and even the admission of the match referee from Saturday, who by all stretches had a poor game as far as the Posh are concerned.

“There is no doubt that after having looked at the video evidence he is very clear himself that there should not be a card issued of any description.

“In fact the report does clearly say that he went on the decision of an assistant referee who is 50, 60 yards away and I think that disappoints everyone.

“Had that been right no one would have been disappointed but it is so far-fetched from the reality of the situation, when you watch the replays of it, it is hard to accept. But it has happened.

“What do I look at the incident? I look at the incident and my player has been run into and if anything it is freekick to the Posh.

“Young Graham Carey, who is a terrific talent, looks as if he has gone for the Oscars.

“He is rolling around holding his face and perhaps he is fortunate to get away with a caution in the first half for simulation, trying to win a penalty and that is disappointing from such a talented lad.

“But he will learn, he is young, he is gifted and he is a good player and I am sure Derek (Adams) has had a word with him today after he looked at it.”

Evans continued: “Another surprising thing was to hear the manager of Plymouth Argyle, Derek Adams, who has done a great job it has to be said, saying it is a deserved red.

“I don’t think he would have been thinking that on Saturday evening in his little flat with his little glass of wine.”
