Man on the run after pursuit
A man is on the run and a woman has been arrested after a police pursuit through the streets of Peterborough.
The police helicopter was called to assist the chase, which started at about noon yesterday (Wednesday).
Officers were chasing a blue Ford Focus ST, which eventually came to a halt in Redmile Walk, Welland, Peterborough when it collided with a fence in the street.
The male driver fled on foot, however officers were able to arrest a female passenger at the scene.
While the pursuit was taking place, residents spotted the police helicopter over Dogsthorpe, Eastfield and Stanground.
The force helicopter was also used to try and locate the driver after he fled from the scene.
Armed officers and the police dog unit were also called in to help with the search, and a number of police cars were at the scene at the end of the chase.
The garden fence was completely flattened in the incident.
The male driver remains at large - however, police have not released a description of the man at the time of going to press.
A Cambridgeshire police spokeswoman was also unable to say why the pursuit had started, or where the police action had begun other than to say it started in Peterborough.
The 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle, and was taken to Thorpe Wood police station for questioning.
