A driver running out of fuel on a Peterborough parkway led to a collision which shut the road.

The Frank Perkins Parkway was closed on Monday morning after a lorry overturned near the Boongate junction.

The crash took place at 5.54am and involved a Renault Megane and a small lorry.

It is thought the Renault ran out of fuel, and was clipped by the lorry.

A Cambridgeshire Police said: “This morning officers attended an RTC after a van collided with a broken down car causing delays to commuters.

“Please ensure you have sufficient fuel before starting your journey and pay attention to the road ahead when driving.”

Both drivers were reported for driving without due care and attention.

A police spokeswoman said that because the car driver had passed two petrol stations before breaking down this led to the report for driving without due care and attention.

The light goods vehicle had overturned and required extensive recovery, closing the road between the Eye roundabout and the Oxney Road slip road until 8.10am.

Police said minor injuries were suffered in the incident, but an ambulance was not needed at the scene.
