The name Gabriel Byrne above any film title promises it will be worth watching, no matter what. And indeed it’s the big guy who rises above a crowded plot, to make this gritty Brit noir compelling. Byrne plays Donald, the chauffeur to dodgy Bradford businessman Demi (Harvey Keitel) whose sudden death leaves him to clear up evidence of his boss’s affair with beautiful and ambitious young Asian woman Amber (Sibylla Deen - pictured). As events unfold Donald reluctantly becomes Amber’s protector because she’s at grave risk from bullying gangster husband KD (Jan Uddin) whom she was forced to marry at 16.
