Rams receive a pre-season player boost

Cambs Division One title fancies Ramsey have received a pre-season boost with the return to the club of all-rounder Taylor West.

West had accepted a professional’s role at a Birmingham League club, but that has now fallen through so he will be at Saffron Walden on Saturday with the rest of the Rams along with new all-rounder Nikhil Gotlanta from Perse School.

Wisbech, another team with hopes of a high finish, start their season at home to Saffron Walden, while Castor, Ufford Park and Stamford Town are in Division Two action. Stamford’s first game at this level takes place at St Ives.

Cambs League clubs were given the option of delaying the start of their season by a further week, but only March of the local teams have taken up the offer.

Market Deeping host Bourne in the pick of the local cricket fixtures on Saturday (noon). Bourne have prepared for the big derby by going on a successful tour of Sri Lanka.

Bourne also open the Rutland Division One season at home to Oundle on Sunday when Ketton Sports host Barnack.

Peterborough Town open their Northants Premier Division season at Rushden on April 28.
