Eight second-half goals ensure Ploughman power on
Ploughman confirmed their status as the dominant force in the Peterborough Sunday Morning League by completing a league and cup double last weekend.
The pub team thrashed Division Two side Farcet 9-1 in the Hereward Cup Final at Yaxley FC’s In2itive Park, scoring eight times in the secondhalf.
It was 1-1 at the break, but Ploughman went on the rampage in the second period with Jack Barron’s hat-trick leading the way.
Harry Hogg (2), Dan Ginty (2), Dan Fountain and Grant Watson were also on target for the Division One champions.
Ploughman clinched the league title last month and having won all eight of their Division One matches so far.
They should make it nine out of nine when they host bottom club Cardea at Werrington on Sunday.
Second-placed PIS completed their fixtures with a 4-3 win over Guyhirn, but they can still be caught for the runnersup spot by both Parkway and Halcyon.
Halcyon kept up their challenge with a 4-2 win over Cardea. Kieshan Wilson struck a hat-trick.
Itter Park Rangers failed in their attempt to regain the Northants Veterans Cup last Sunday.
The city side, who are full of some star names from the local scene, conceded twice in the opening seven minutes to Bugbrooke on the way to a 3-0 defeat at Irchester FC.
It’s the sixth major county veterans final Itter Park have reached in the last eight years.
Itter Park are sixth in the Northants Sunday Combination Vets League. Unbeaten Bugbrooke are top.
