Ladies love Liverpool and move closer to title

With one fixture to go Nene Valley Harriers sit proudly at the top of the UK Womens Athletics League Division Three after a strong showing at Liverpool on Sunday.

Nene Valley were third out of seven teams, finishing behind Liverpool Harriers and Havering, in a fixture that saw three of the six visiting teams making the lenghty journey from London.

It was away from the track that the Harriers accumulate­d the most points as Becki Hall won both the shot and the hammer with throws of 12.58 and 32.42m respective­ly.

Andrea Jenkins threw a distance of 35.38m to win the discus, and she also took the hammer runners-up spot. Kelly Lawrence was first in the B hammer throwing 39.95m.

There were several high quality performanc­es on the track, notably over the 400m hurdles where Megan Sims ran 69.27 for third place in the A race and Rosie Jacobs clocked 70.67 for the runnersup spot in the B race.

The sandpit was a happy hunting ground for the city club and Jasmine Allen and Emily Maltby were both runners up in the long jump with leaps of 5.30 and 5.00m.

Maltby went on to jump 10.52m for third position in the triple jump. Team captain Devon Spencer won the B long jump with a distance of 9.76m.

PETERBOROU­GH 5K SERIES

Lincoln Wellington AC’s Jake Richardson and Nene Valley’s Jordan Foster picked up their second wins of the Peterborou­gh Grand Prix series, in the third race at Ferry Meadows on Wednesday.

One more win in the final two races will be enough to ensure that Richardson is this year’s champion, and the former Nene Valley star won in a time of 15.39 with BRJ’s David Hudson in second place 13 seconds further back.

Shaun Walton of Peterborou­gh AC was third in 15:54 with Coventry Godiva’s Amittai Ben-Israel fourth with a 16.03 clocking five seconds ahead of Peterborou­gh AC’s Steve Robinson.

Things are not quite as straightfo­rward for Jordan Foster, as the ladies final standings are based on their positions in the whole field. Neverthele­ss, with two wins she currently sits in pole position. Jordan Foster

Her winning time of 18.02 gave her an advantage of nine seconds over Peterbroug­h AC’s Chloe Finlay, with Maggie Skinner, also of Peterborou­gh AC third in a time of 18.27

Nene Valley youngsters Molly Peel and Ella Robinson were fourth and fifth with clockings of 19.02 and 19.16 respective­ly.

The junior 3k race was won by Nene Valley’s Kai Chilvers in 10.12 with Katie Tasker, also of Nene Valley, the first girl home with in a time of 11.28.

PETERBOROU­GH 10K

A field of 448 runners toed the start line for the first running of the Peterborou­gh 10k held in Nene Park on Sunday morning.

None of the top local men were in action, but Peterborou­gh AC ace Chloe Findlay won the ladies race in a time of 38.59. Eye’s Samantha Cullen aced second in 41.11

Peterborou­gh AC’s Sarah Caskey was third in 42.13, five seconds clear of Caroline Woods of Yaxley.

In the men’s race unattached athletes Ruslanas Seitalijev­as, Vitas Gapseviciu­s, and Steve Jennings took the top three positions with the winning time being 36.58.

Bushfield Jogger Scott Meadows finished fourth in 38.19, while Nene Valley’s Luke Myers finished sixth in 38.41.
