‘Mad’ Daryl’s devotion to motion
Several local runners have decided that the marathon is not enough, and are turning to less conventional tests of their endurance.
Amongst this group one runner stands out for his devotion to motion. Nene Valley’s Darryl Coulter is a solicitor during the week, but rest is often the last thing on his mind at weekends.
This week the Oundlebased glutton for punishment enjoyed a weekend of relative ease, running a mere half-marathon across Oxfordshire fields where stinging nettles were four foot high, and the temperature reached over 30c
A fortnight previously Coulter had completed the 95- mile West Highland Way race from Milngavie North of Glasgow to Fort William for the third time in the last four years.
Since taking up running just six years ago Coulter has run a staggering 80 races of marathon distance or more.
Future plans include getting his total of marathons and longer distances up to 100, and perhaps embarking on a run from Lands End to John O’Groats. The record for this is currently nine days.
