Two-goal Tyler is truly a man of his word

Summer Peterborough United signing Tyler Denton has proved to be a man of his word already.

The 22 year-old joined Posh on loan for the season from Chapionship side Leeds United and revealed he was a leftback who liked to get forward.

Denton promptly scored in his first game for the club in last weekend’s 4-2 win at Bedford and then struck again during Tuesday’s 9-0 win at Peterborough Sports when he was played in midfield.

Denton was promoted to the first-team squad from youth football when current Posh boss Steve Evans was in charge at Elland Road.

“I am a full-back who loves to attack. I love to get the ball into the penalty area, but every manager tells me it’s important to defend first,” Denton stated.

“I’ve had a good football education at Leeds, but I spoke to the people there in the summer and it was agreed I would go out on loan for the season.

“I was young when Steve Evans was at Leeds, but I’m happy to be playing for a manager with such a successful record.

“I’m expecting a physical challenge in League One, but it’s also a good standard of football.

“I’ve come here to play firstteam matches so I will work had and see where I end up.”

Denton, who spent most of the first half of last season on loan at League Two strugglers Port Vale, can expect to challenge for the left-back slot with another close-season recruit Colin Daniel.

Evans said: “I know Tyler very well from being in and around the first team squad at Leeds United.

“I elevated him into the first team group and he did exceptionally well.

“It is fair to say that he developed further with a few games in the first team at Leeds. I watched one of those games when he scored the winning goal against Luton Town and he was very impressive.

“He had an excellent spell on loan at Port Vale last season and we are absolutely delighted to bring him into our squad.

“He will compete anywhere on that left hand side for a place in our starting XI.

“It is massively important that we bring good footballers in and Tyler Denton is a good footballer.

“He works really hard and for one so young, he has an excellent pedigree.

“He has played with some top class players at Leeds United over the last few years. “Leeds supporters know their football and they rate this lad very highly.

“This move is about him furthering his education and to then be ready to go back to Elland Road in a year’s time ready to compete at their level.”

Denton has started just three matches for Leeds, all of them cup ties.

He made 21 appearances for Port Vale before returning to Leeds last season.
