Two dead and several others injured in road incidents

It has been a tragic week on roads in and around Peterborou­gh with two deaths and a number of serious accidents.

A pedestrian was killed when they were involved in a collision with a car on the A141 at Chatteris on Saturday morning.

The man has not been formally identified by police yet.

Later that day Neil McCartney, 62, of Collier Road, Cambridge was killed when his red BMW collided with a stationary lorry on the A14 at Alconbury at about 11.55pm.

On Thursday a man, aged in his 60s, suffered a cardiac arrest at the wheel as he was driving at Boongate in Peterborou­gh.

His car left the road, and ended in trees near the roundabout.

The Magpas Air Ambulance was called and medics resuscitat­ed the man before he was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.

Two children and a woman suffered minor injuries following a collision on Westfield Road in Peterborou­gh on Sunday at 2pm.

The collision involved a Land Rover Freelander which ended on its side - and a Peugeot 307.

The road was closed for several hours while emergency services worked at the scene.

A driver fled from the scene after a BMW crashed into a petrol station in Yaxley on Sunday morning.

The black BMW hit the BP garage on London Road just before 6am. Police said they were trying to trace the driver of the car.

The A1 was closed northbound between Sawtry and Stilton on Monday following a crash involving a lorry and a car carrying five people.

The female driver of the car suffered minor injuries, while one of the passengers was trapped in the vehicle, and had to be cut out.
