Police name woman in hospital fraud case
Appeal to find June Weatherman (54) who is banned from every hospital
Police are hunting a woman who has been banned from every hospital in the country on suspicion of stealing thousands of pounds from a widow.
More than £10,000 was stolen from 91-year-old Mary Banks as she lay bedridden at Peterborough City Hospital in September. She died just a few days after falling victim to the theft.
Now police have identified 54- year-old June Weather man as the woman wanted in connection with the fraud.
Weatherman was jailed in September 2014 for seven years after she was found guilty of 15 charges of theft and fraud. Guildford Crown Court in Surrey heard she posed as a member of hospital staff to snatch money and other items from elderly patients. She was also banned from entering any hospital.
Mrs Banks was at Peterborough City Hospital suffering from dementia when her purse was stolen from the hospital.
Her bank card was then used to fraudulently pay for groceries and clothes, as well as withdrawing cash. The card was reported as stolen on Friday, October 12, four days after Mary passed away.
Jim Banks, Mary’s son, said: “My mother was 91 years old, suffering from dementia, was immobile and had severe breathing problems when her purse was stolen as she lay in bed at Peterborough City Hospital. She would have been completely unaware of where she was let alone that she was being robbed by a despicable and immoral individual who has preyed on the sick and vulnerable.”
PC Lewis Busby said: “My thoughts go with the family who are dealing with the loss of their loved one and now have to deal with this alongside it.”
Anybody who knows Weatherman’s whereabouts should contact police by dialing 999, quoting 35/36955/18, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
