Ivan Toney

-

How delicious it would be if a former Cobbler scored the winning goal in the League One play-off final at Wembley. Posh splashed out £600k on striker Toney in August and he has been a formidable presence in the team not just with his goals, but his impressive attitude and workrate. I sense a huge 2019 for the big man. It would be rather nice if those Posh fans who seem intent on driving manager Steve Evans (above) out of the ABAX Stadium took a deep breath, left the major decisions to chairman Darragh MacAnthony and his co-owners and concentrated instead on supporting the players in their promotion bid. Posh are still close enough to the top six to be confident of mounting the club’s biggest challenge for a Championship place for five years. It won’t happen if the atmosphere at matches becomes toxic like in a previous unsuccessful bid to unseat a manager back in Barry Fry’s day.

I’d love Posh to succeed under Evans just as I’d have loved Posh to succeed under Grant McCann, Graham Westley, Dave Robertson and Gary Johnson. That’s what support is. Peterborough Sports to win a step four title and continue their upwardly mobile progress. It’s a decent standard of football at the Bee Arena as manager Jimmy Dean (above) has built a powerful, speedy, skilful, attacking side who are well worth watching.

I have been accused of having an in-built Netherton United bias which is of course nonsense, but I hope the best local football club in the area wins the Peterborough Premier Division title, the Peterborough Senior Cup and anything else they can still capture. Peterborough Town to regain the Northants Premier Division title by using a squad of amateur players, most of whom have come through the club’s youth team ranks. Too many average cricketers get paid these days.
