Dean’s salute after fabulous festive season
PeterboroughSportsmanager Jimmy Dean praised his players for a fantastic effort over the festive programme, one that yielded four wins from four matches, 13 goals scored, one conceded and a five-point lead at the top of Division One Central of the Evo Stik Southern League.
Sports completed their holiday romp with a 3-0 home win over Berkhamstead at the Bee Arena last Saturday and a 3-1 success at Cambridge City on New Year’s Day.
Defeat for nearest challengers Bromsgrove Sporting at Coleshill on Tuesday means Sports are clear at the top ahead of Saturday’s home game against next-to-bottom North Leight (3pm).
Dean said: “Fantastic effort from my boys over the festive period winning four from four.
“They managed to avoid the temptations, give up valuable family time and their New Year’s Eve celebrations, but they did it because they know what they want from this season.”
Sports are offering a ‘paywhat-you-want’ promotion at Saturday’s game.
Corby are third after a 4-0 win at Yaxley. They are six points behind Sports, but have a game in hand. Yaxley are at lowly Kempston Rovers on Saturday.
In Division One East of the Northern League Wisbech eased their own relegation fears and increased Spalding’s by winning 2-1 at the Sir Halley Stewart Field on New Year’s Day. An early Toby Hilliard strike and an own goal secured the points.
Wisbech have another big game this Saturday when hosting bottom club Stocksbridge Park Steels.
