The chairman of a leading Peterborough manufacturer has spoken about the new eco-future facing the company following its takeover.

Omega Foundry, based in Morley Road, Woodston, was bought by Sintokogio Corporation, of Japan, in February last year, and renamed Omega Sinto Foundry Machinery.

Almost a year after the sale, chairman Mark Fenyes said the takeover had been carried out very smoothly.

He said: “The new owners have kept the management structure in place, and there really have not been any changes here.

“But, following the takeover, we are hoping to expand into a lot of different markets than we are in at the moment.

“We are focused on providing total turnkey solutions to foundries with a special focus on the environment, trying to maximise the recyclability of the products that we use and also to give clean, emission free foundries.”

Sintokogio Corporation is the world’s largest manufacturer of foundry equipment and the one that offered the most potential to the Peterborough firm.

Mr Fenyes, who took ownership of Omega in a management buyout in 1996, said: “I could have sold to a Western firm or a Chinese one.

“But we’ve had contact with Sintokogio since 2006 and knew they wanted to grow and develop what we have achieved here.”

Mr Fenyes, who grew the business from a company employing 12 people with a £1.5 million turnover to 150 employees and a £30 million turnover, said the future lay in ensuring its operations were carried out more sustainably.
