RAF bands unite for cathedral performance
Band lovers are in for a treat when The Central Band of the Royal Air Force and Royal Air Force Wyton Area Voluntary Band return to Peterborough this month.
Back by popular demand, the world famous Central Band of the Royal Air Force joins forces with the ever popular RAF Wyton Band for this gala concert featuring classics from the military band repertoire.
The Central Band’s Director of Music, Flight Lieutenant Chris I’Anson, will join Wyton’s Bandmaster,
Mr Graham Sheldon, to lead a memorable evening of first class music and entertainment at Peterborough Cathedral on February 16 from 7.30pm. Tickets are £20 in the main Nave and £12 for side aisles (may have restricted view) and can be purchased on-line via the Peterborough Cathedral website, or in person at the Vivacity Peterborough Visitor Information Centre.
All profits will go to Macmillan Cancer Support and the Peterborough Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association.
Up-and-coming Peterborough funk band LET’S FUNK! are also playing a fundraising gig in the city in March.
Their show on March 1 at Parkway Sports & Social Club in Maskew Avenue will see them cover mainly 70s and 80s funk, soul and disco-boogie. Tickets are £8, and £5 of that value goes straight to Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.
Rising singer-songwriter Sam Lewis, who is based in Nashville Tennessee, will be inconcert on February 17 at Crowland Abbey. His songs reflect the simplicity of Willie Nelson, combined with the poetic genius of Bob Dylan and the soulfulness of Ray Charles. He has been called a modern day Townes Van Zandt!
