World Cup comes to the city as Town confirm Sayer signing
Cricket - First defeat for Hunts Indoor League leaders
Peterborough Town have secured the services of star all-rounder Rob Sayer for another season.
Sayer, who has represented England in an Under 19 World Cup, was released by Leicestershire at the end of last season after five years at the first-class county.
The 24 year-old all rounder played the majority of Town’s Northants Premier Division games last summer, but should be available for the entire 2019 campaign.
Sayer, who moved from Town to Leicestershire in 2014, is currently playing grade cricket in Melbourne.
Town expect to field a similar side to last season when they finished third.
Former Cambs minor county captain Lewis Bruce is expected to play more regularly.
■ The Nissan ICC Cricket World Cup trophy comes to Bretton Gate on Saturday, April 27 as part of a world tour. England host the World Cup this summer.
“We are delighted the trophy is coming to Peterborough and that we have been asked to host it for a day,” Town chairman Brian Howard said.
“This is an event for all the residents, cricket fans and children of Peterborough. It’s a massive year of cricket this summer with the World Cup and the Ashes.”

■ Ufford Park lost for the first time in the Hunts Indoor League last weekend as Hampton proved 10 runs too good in a low-scoring clash.
Hampton recovered from 30-4 to reach 104-5 thanks to a hard-hitting 39 (three fours, two sixes) from Dannish Rasheed and an unbeaten 34 from Saqib Ali.
Hampton are now second with one round of matches to go.
Usman Sadiq (51no) for King’s Keys A, Ahmed Kamboh (51no) for Werrington and Alan Mclean (53no) for CAMRA all recorded half centuries in the latest round of games at Bushfield Sports Centre.
CAMRA beat Bretton by five runs despite another explosive innings from Ryan Evans, who struck four fours and two sixes in his 43 not out.
King’s Keys A beat their own B team by 24 runs and bottom club Orton Park pipped Werrington by one wicket.
Teenager Cameron Harris (49no) was the star performer for Orton Park who recorded a second win of the season.
Ufford Park will represent Hunts in an indoor cricket county play-off in Oxfordshire later this month.
The Hunts League at Bushfield is yet to finish, but as the ECB needed to know all playoff finalists by the middle of January it was agreed that whoever topped the table at that time would move forward.
