Local cup finals forced away from the Posh ground

-

It’s the end of an era as no local cup finals will be played at Peterborough United’s ABAX Stadium this season.

A Senior Cup and Under 13 Cup finals have traditionally been played at London Road, but competition officials claim Posh have priced them out of the market.

The finals will now take place at the Nene Valley Community Centre.

Peterborough League chairman Keith Sharp said: “Sadly, this year we have had to move cup finals from London Road as the owners have asked for a payment that is no longer viable. We have had many discussions with them, but their lack of movement means we have no choice.”

Meanwhile Netherton United manager Jon Harrison admits his focus is already on planning for next season after his reigning champions fell 10 points behind long-time leaders Moulton Harrox in the Peterborough Premier Division title race last weekend.

Netherton conceded a late equaliser to Whittlesey Athletic at the Grange on Saturday, while Harrox were easing to a 2-0 success at home to Leverington Sports.

“To be honest I’m already planning for next season,” admitted Harrison, who has now completed a six-match touchline ban. “Harrox won’t drop enough points for us to catch them.”

Robbie Ellis and Michael Fox scored for Netherton in the 2-2 draw with Whittlesey, with Harry Jenkins and Jamie Darlow replying for Whittlesey. Darlow equalised in the 84th minute

Netherton are at Tydd on Saturday when Moulton Harrox travel to Holbeach United Reserves.
