Transfer deadline day deals

-

Just what Posh are up against in League One this season was laid bare on transfer deadline day by Sunderland paying a League One record transfer fee of £4 million for Wigan striker Will Grigg.

It helps when you play at home in front of close to 30,000 fans of course. Posh signed 24 players during the reign of Steve Evans, but made a decent profit financially thanks to the sale of Jack Marriott to Derby County for £4 million. Ivan Toney at £600k from Newcastle is Posh’s current most expensive player. Sunderland enjoyed a strong January transfer window as did fellow promotion contenders Portsmouth who supplemented a squad that has started to struggle with James Vaughan, another Wigan striker, and former Posh loanee Omar Bogle from Cardiff. Bogle has scored in his first two Pompey games which is one more goal than he managed in four months at the ABAX Stadium.

League One leaders Luton surprisingly added another former Posh loanee Jason Cummings to their squad. Cummings scored all of his six League One goals for Posh in August. He lost his way after a video emerged in September of him trashing his Peterborough apartment.

Charlton would appear to have endured the worst transfer window of the clubs chasing promotion . They lost star striker Karlan Grant to Premier League Huddersfield and their attempt to sign former Posh favourite Erhun Oztumer from Bolton was scuppered at the last minute by the Championship club. Another former Posh player on the move was midfielder Leo Da Silva Lopes who joined League One Gillingham on loan from Wigan. Da Silva Lopes was sold by Posh to the Latics for £1 million last summer, but has made just one substitute appearance in the Championship.
