Hinds sight shows no vision for city schools’ problems

-

Dominic Hinds, the education minister, visited Peterborough last week (isn’t it strange how political heavyweights of all parties are making Peterborough their g0-to destination at the moment.I wonder why?).

He was here to look at a field. That field might one day house the city’s longawaited and long-promised university, but it’s still just a field. Naturally, the PT took the opportunity to ask him questions about the city’s appalling education performance.

We weren’t expecting Mr Hinds to wave a magic wand, but we were hoping he might have a plan or some sensible insight. But all we got were the same old worthless platitudes we have been hearing from his colleagues on the local Tory council for years and years.

The man who is politically responsible for my children and your children getting a proper education came up with these gems.

Peterborough is a brilliant and unique place, blah, blah, blah. Schools have challenges but they deal with it brilliantly, blah, blah, blah.

For the record, I believe we have some great teachers and great schools. Yet the fact remains the education the children of this city get is just about the worst in the country, and has been for years.

Still, at least Mr Hinds can point to all the money he has saved the taxpayer by slashing the funding received by Peterborough schools.

You really MUST try harder, minister.
