MP shows the law is for everyone
Having read the letter defending the actions of Peterborough MP Fiona Onasanya
(PeterboroughTelegraph,February 14) you do have to wonder on which planet some people live.
The correct assertion that defendants are innocent until proven guilty falls flat given the guilty verdict at Ms Onasanya’s retrial.
To accuse the authorities of a ‘stitch up’ is pretty desperate and has no basis in fact given the evidence.
You also have to ask how a qualified solicitor cannot be aware that a Notice of Intended Prosecution in relation to an alleged speeding offence must be to truthfully completed.
The idea that an MP can conduct constituency business from inside a prison cell is laughable as is the suggestion that ‘innocent’ inmates could benefit from legal advice from someone who trained as a property lawyer.
This whole sorry business has left Fiona Onasanya’s life in tatters.
Clinging on to her MP’s salary before the inevitable exit from the Commons and facing certain disbarment from the Law Society she will be regretting her foolishness for the rest of her life.
The letter rightly reminds us that the law is for everyone as Jeffrey Archer, Jonathan Aitken and now Fiona Onasanya have found to their cost. Graham Last Apsley Way Longthorpe Peterborough
