A musical medley for March

-

This month Peterborough really does demonstrate that music matters with a fantastic choice of concerts and events across the city.

For many of us, going to concerts is quite a formal affair involving planning and effort.

However, easier options are available, and where better than St. John the Baptist Church in Cathedral Square, as the venue begins its spring season of Tuesday Til Two concerts this month.

For a suggested donation of just £4 these 45 minute events offer a superb way of listening to some fantastic musicians performing live in beautiful surroundings. They can provide a great escape from the stresses of the working day, leaving you refreshed, relaxed and calm for the afternoon ahead. This month’s programme includes: Dolce Flute Quartet (March 12), classical guitarist, Estevão Devides (March 19) and harpist Eleanor Turner (March 26). Concerts start at 1pm, with refreshments available. For more details visit: stjohnscic.wordpress.com/tuesdays-till-two/

This month also sees the arrival of the inaugural Signature Music Festival. This new competitive Festival for young musicians will be held at the Citadel, Peterborough. Running from March 26 to 29, classes are open to the public, and competitors often appreciate an audience helping to create atmosphere and a sense of performance.

Visit signaturemusicfest.org for details.

The music continues out of town too with Manchester’s prodigious folk foursome 4Square coming to Tallington Village Hall on March 14, at 7.30pm (doors open at 7pm, with licensed bar).

4Square (pictured) bring three-part harmonies and endlessly inventive arrangements to their fiery and virtuosic brand of folk-fusion. Interweaving traditional folk with a wide range of influences from jazz to chamber music, to Americana, to Latin.

The show is part of the Live & Local Rural Touring Network, offering a wealth of top class shows in Village Halls across the region.

This show marks Tallington’s first event as part of the Live & Local scheme - so a full house would be a great start!

Ticket prices: £10 Standard / £8 Over 65 / £8 Student / £5 Under 10. Available From: tallingtonvillagehall@gmail.com or 07939986817

March 30 at 7.30pm sees the City of Peterborough Symphony Orchestra return to Queen Katharine Academy in Walton.

The programme, conducted by Steve Bingham, features Verdi’s Requiem, with the orchestra joined by Peterborough Opera and, for the first time, Robin Norman’s Take Note Community Choir.

Tickets are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/cpso or call 01733 452336 or 01832 274734.
