Kids with plenty of character!
Is your child featured in our World Book Day picture special
It was World Book Day last Thursday and little ones across Peterborough headed off to school dressed as their favourite fictional characters from literature.
Parents inundated the Peterborough Telegraph with pictures of their children dressed to impress on one of the most popular days of the year.
Harry Potter, Bambi, Winnie the Pooh and Peter Rabbit were just some of the characters who bounded into Peterborough’s schools, as well as numerous superheroes from popular comics such as AntMan and Thor.
The National Literacy Trust, which runs the campaign Peterborough Reads, said: “We’ve just released new research that shows the need to celebrate books and reading is greater than ever.
“The research shows that the number of eight to 18-yearolds reading for pleasure has now dropped to 52.5 per cent from 58.8 per cent in 2016, and only a quarter (25.7 per cent) now read daily, compared with 43 per cent in 2015.
“We’re delighted to see how many children in Peterborough got involved in World Book Day and are amazed by the range and creativity of costumes! Long may this love of books – and characters – continue.”
Market Deeping-based software developer NetSupport also played its part on the day by donating more than 100 books to six local primary schools.
