Online retail giant clicks for Chamber
Business leaders go behind-the-scenes at Amazon
Business leaders got a behindthe-scenes look at the workings of internet retail giant Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Peterborough.
A team from the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce were given a tour of the huge warehouse at Kingston Park, in Flaxley Road, which employs more than 1,000 people.
They got a chance to see at first hand the technology involved in sorting and delivering millions of parcels to customers across the region.
Andy Crick, Amazon’s delivery station manager, outlined Amazon’s plans to invest in its transportation infrastructure and other innovative ways to expand its supply chain capacity and speed up deliveries for customers.
He explained how customers could benefit from convenient pick-up locations and could track where their packages and known how many stops the driver has before the package arrives.
He said: “It was great for the team to see how we deliver to our customers and to be able to explain the range of roles and career opportunities available here at Peterborough.
“We’re proud to be a part of the local community and look forward to continuing to deliver an excellent service to all our customers.”
John Bridge, the chamber’s chief executive, said: “It was fascinating. I was extremely impressed with the operation and the work environment they provide.
“Amazon has made a significant contribution to the community by providing excellent work and training opportunities and we look forward to continuing our great relationship with Amazon in Peterborough for years to come.”
