Boro back on track

-

Peterborough RUFC snapped a four-game losing streak to climb a couple of places in Midlands Division One East.

Borough survived a nervy finale to beat Towcestrians 2924 at Fengate and they claimed a bonus point for scoring four tries.

Mooki Tshepo Otto, Matt Newman, Jack Balham and Ryan Morris scored the Borough tries with Newman kicking the rest of their points.

Borough started slowly as usual, but were in control at half-time when they led 22-5.

It was 29-12 after Newman had converted his own try, but ill-discipline enabled Towcestrians to get back into the game and reduce the deficit to five points with 10 minutes still to play.

But Borough really knuckled down in the final stages to see the game out impressively as Sam Crooks, Dewi Pearce, Jamie Dingle, Chayne Loades, and Zak McClure started to dominate, turning ball over regularly.

Borough will hope to build on this win by beating bottom club Wellingborough away from home this Saturday.

OUNDLE

There’s a huge game on Saturday for Midlands Division One East title challengers Oundle.

Oundle consolidated third place with an easy win against an ill-disciplined Wellingborough side at Occupation Road.

The hosts won 47-0 with the help of three penalty tries in the first half against opponents comfortable with breaking rugby laws as the expense of yellow cards. Joe Sagoe crossed for two tries with Said Sait also touching down.

It gets tougher for Oundle this Saturday as they travel to second-placed Derby who have won all seven of their league games so far.

ROUND-UP

It’s a great time to be a rugby fan in Stamford as the Town team and the College Old Boys side boast 100 per cent winning Midlands League records.

Stamford have a maximum 20 points from four games to top Division Three East following a huge win over Northampton BBOB, while the old boys have also won four out of four in Division Four East after also thrashing opponents from Northampton.
