FA Cup tie at the basement boys

-

Posh will visit the Football League’s bottom club, Stevenage, in the first round of the FA Cup next month. Posh almost received a bye as they were the penultimate team to be drawn out. Instead non-league Chichester were placed straight into round two.

Peterborough United can catch up with some familar faces after the first rounddraw in the FA Cup paired them with League Two side Stevenage.

Posh will travel to the Lamex Stadium on the weekend of November 9/10 when they will find former London Road employees Craig Mackail-Smith, Paul Taylor, Tyler Denton and Ben Nugent among the opposition.

It will also be a homecoming for current Posh star George Boyd who moved into the Football League from Stevenage to Posh in January, 2007, for a then non-league record fee of £265,000.

Posh legend MackailSmith is on loan at Stevenage from Notts County and has started just one match this season. Taylor has made four appearances, but, like Mackail-Smith, he is yet to score for his latest club.

Left-back Denton was on loan at Posh from Leeds United last season, but made a permanent move to Stevenage in the summer for an undisclosed fee. Centre-back Nugent played 11 times for Posh on loan from Bentford in 2014.

Posh have never played Stevenage in an FA Cup tie, but they did win a thrilling League Cup tie at Broadhall Way 4-3 in 2011 with the winning goal scored by Lee Tomlin from the penalty spot in the 120th minute.

Boyd and David Ball (2) also scored for Posh.

Posh now face three away games in eight days as League One trips to Blackpool (November 2) and Shrewsbury (November 5) preceed the FA Cup tie.
