National schools golds for top ski racers Lucy and Jasper
Skiing - Super siblings in great form
Ski racers Lucy and Jasper Blackwell represented Bourne’s Kirkstone House School at the National Schools Open Dry Slope Championships held in Swadlincote.
Both raced in the junior event and Lucy took gold in the under 14 girls event and her brother Jasper also took gold in the under 12 boys’ event.
The event was organised by the National Schools Snowsports Association and was sponsored by a range of organisations including the Ski Club of Great Britain.
The West Deeping siblings are regular ski racers and both love the sport, consistently achieving podium places for regional and national races.
Lucy and Jasper’s parents said: “We are so proud of how focussed they both are on training.
“Ski racing is a great sport and teaches so many life skills. Everything from making sure you have the right kit at the top of a mountain to the dedication to working hard in training to find that all important hundredth of a second for a faster run.
“It’s also great for all round fitness, health and wellbeing.
“Who knows what the future holds? For now it’s all about having fun, making new friends and enjoying the experience.”
Over the summer, in the under 12 boys, Jasper was second in the British Outdoor Championships and third in the Snowsport England Ski Bartlett English Open Championships 2019, both of which took place in Stoke.
Lucy, a nationally seeded racer, now races in the senior categories and at those races came in the top 20 against all senior women racers, finishing 17th in both.
Back in April this year Lucy secured the Independent Schools Association Indoor Champion title in the under 14 girls category.
Now the youngsters are looking forward to winter and the chance to get out to train in the mountains.
