City of Peterborough have banked their first win in National League Division One.

And they did it the hard way last weekend coming from a goal down to beat Sheffield Hallam 2-1 at Bretton Gate.

Joe Finding scored both goals from short corners to move City up to eighth in the 10-team competition. Hallam are bottom after losing all five of their fixtures so far.

City don’t get the chance to build on their opening victory as they have no fixture this weekend.

“It’s been a tough opening five weeks,” City manager Graham Finding said. “But we’ve been competitive and we’ve delivered some decent performances.”

The heavy rain made conditions difficult for both teams last Saturday with slips and slides aplenty.

There was still some quality on show with the visitors taking the lead from a wellstruck set-piece in the 13th minute.

But City were soon dominating possession and were rewarded when Finding scored with a clinical strike in the 33rd minute.

Finding was on target again seven minutes later and City struck the post twice before seeing the game out rather comfortably.

City seconds also claimed a fine home win as they saw off Ipswich first team 2-0 in the East Premier A Division.

Matt Porter (penalty) and

Trevor Matthews, following a sweeping length-of-the-field move, scored for City who are fourth after losing just one of their six league games, and that was to runaway leaders West Herts.

City of Peterborough thirds are fifth in Division Two North after goals from Matt Carson (2) and short-corner specialist Paul Hillsdon saw off University of East Anglia 3-2.

City fourths lost top spot in Division Three North West as their match was postponed. March are one of two teams to overtake them after crushing

Leadenham 9-2.

CITY OF PETERBOROUGH LADIES

City of Peterborough first team lost for the first time in the East Premier A Division as they went down 4-0 at Wapping.

Slick short corner routines proved City’s undoing. Wapping scored all four goals from set-pieces to overtake their victims into second place.

It’s another tough one for City on Saturday as they host leaders East London (1pm start) who have won all six topflight games so far.

City seconds suffered a surpisingly heavy 6-2 defeat at North Norfolk in Division One North. Masie Brownlow and Hannah Brown scored for City.

City thirds are top of Division Three North West despite being held 3-3 by Ely City. Their scorers were Alice Brownlow, Leonie Hart and Jenna Mohan
