Borough boys attempt to march with the Saints

-

Current English Premiership leaders Northampton Saints held their annual ‘Developing Players Programme’ festival for under 14s, under 15s and under 16s at Stowe School last weekend.

And Peterborough RUFC were represented well in the Under 16 Cambridgeshire team by backs Ethan Manning, William Manning and Josh Webster, and forwards George Salisbury and Leon Tulip.

Cambridgeshire beat Bedfordshire and Suffolk and gained a creditable draw with Northamptonshire who were managed by local ex-Saints player Jon Phillips.

Ethan Manning scored three tries while William Manning and Salisbury also got on the score sheet.

MIDLANDS DIVISION THREE

Stamford were knocked off the top of Division Three East after suffering a derby day defeat at Oakham.

Stamford were 19-0 down after playing against the elements in the first half before rallying through tries from Tom Wire and player-coach Austin Schwartz and a conversion by Richard Thompson, but it finished 19-12 to the hosts.

It was a first defeat of the season for Stamford who have dropped from first to second behind Stockwood Park.

Bourne are up to fifth after a solid 17-0 win at Northampton BBOB, but Spalding have only two teams below them after losing 24-5 at fellow strugglers Bedford Queens. Gav Sharman crossed for a consolation try for Spalding.

MIDLANDS DIVISION FOUR

Stamford College Old Boys suffered a rude awakening on Saturday as they were crushed 47-3 at Northampton Mens Own.

It had been plain sailing for the old boys as they soared to the top of Division Four East with four straight wins.

But Mens Own also boasted a 100 per cent winning record going into the match and they showed why to move upto second behind new leaders Birstall. The Old Boys are now third.

Deepings won for the first time in three matches 27-0 at home to Wellingborough Old Grammarians.

The Midlands Leagues resume on November 9.
