Posh paid £1.3 million for a penalty area predator

-

Posh appear to have splashed out £1.3 million on a pure penalty box predator.

Mo Eisa’s contribution in matches can seem neglibible, particularly if there is no space to run in behind defences. In this match he apparently touched the ball just 17 times, but his last one was a real touch of class.

Posh were behind for the second time in the match thanks to a brilliant 85thminute volley from Max Biamou and staring at just a second home defeat of the season when early substitute Siriki Dembele set off on a thrilling run into the penalty area.

His cross landed at Eisa’s feet, but he was faced by a wall of defenders. No problem, he calmy took careful aim and passed the ball into the back of the net with the game’s penultimate kick.

Coventry were allowed to kick off and that was that. The visitors were aghast at drawing at the home of the team who started the day at the top of the table, while the hosts celebrated what must have felt like a victory.

It wsas harsh on slickpassing Coventry who should have been out of sight at the break. Callum O’Hare lost a first-minute one-on-one duel with Posh ‘keeper Christy Pym before Amadou Bakayoko fired them in front on 12 minutes.

Bakayoko and Biamou bullied the Posh centre-backs and Darren Ferguson was forced into a 25th-minute substitution and formation change to try and stem the one-way traffic.

Bakayoko was most unfortunate to have a second ‘goal’ wiped out for handball and Posh managed to reach the sanctuary of the dressing room still in touch.

The second-half was much better as Posh dominated the opening exchanges. Marcus Maddison soon equalised from the penalty spot following a clear foul on Ivan Toney and only an inadvertant block by his strike partner Eisa stopped Toney heading Posh in front from a corner.

Biamou, whose excellent display was only marred by some wayward finishing, looked to have won it for Coventry, but sitting deep as the visitors did after re-taking the lead is always dangerous with so many in-form goalscorers in the Posh side.

Eisa, Maddison and Toney have now claimed 30 goals between them in a season that is only a third completed.
