Church seventh in shot on GB debut in Dubai
Peterborough Nene Valley throwing ace Lydia Church finished seventh in the F12 shot put final at the World Para-Athletics Championship in Dubai.
Representing Great Britain for the first time in a major championship, the visually impaired 20 year-old had a best throw of 11.25m.
Church said: “I’m happy, it wasn’t bad, it was where I thought I would be today.
“It’s been an amazing experience, just being with the team. I can build on this. I’ve just got to train hard, get my technique better, and I’ll be up there.”
GEORGE MUNDAY 10K
Peterborough Nene Valley AC supplied the second, third and fourth placed ladies at Sunday’s George Munday 10k staged in Leverington. Daniella
Hart lead the triumphant trio home with a 41:31 clocking with Elisabeth Sennit-Clough in hot pursuit just 13 seconds further back. Sennit-Clough finished as first over 45 with Laura Grimer first over 40 and fourth overall in 42:01.
Tim Clough, also of Peterborough Nene Valley, clocked 41:46 to finish 21st.
FRISKNEY POPPY 10K
Eye Community Runner Sam Cullen was the winning lady at the Friskney Poppy 10k on Sunday. Cullen ran a personal best of 38:41 and crossed the line with just three men ahead of her.
UK CROSS COUNTRY CHALLENGE
A number of local youngsters took part in the prestigious UK British Cross Country Challenge at Milton Keynes, a event where many of the top athletes go to compete.
Nathaneal Clifford ( Hunts) finished a creditable 38th of over 85 under 11 boys.
Young Josh Wiles (PANVAC) was pick of the day in his first race as an under 13 boy. He is still only Year Six and was running against youngsters two years older, but finished in a superb 20th place.
Kai Chilvers (PANVAC) took 21st place followed closely by Joseph Reindel (Hunts AC in 22nd, Aedan Lydon ( Hunts) in 40th and Lewis Wiles ( PANVAC) in 49th and Mike Sells (Riverside) in 73rd.
Aaron Hunt ( PANVAC) finished a credible 76th in the under 20 men’s race.
In the girls under 13 races Isla Fulluck Holmes ( Hunts) ran a strong race to finish 31st and in a gruelling under 17 race Ella Robinson( Hunts) finished 49th.
