Local bowler Nick Brett was denied a third Scottish International Open title in Perth by his old adversary, Scotland’s Paul Foster.
Brett, the world number six, was beaten 11-3, 10-4 in the final, having beaten Foster in both the 2013 and 2014 finals, the Scot having denied Brett a first-ever World Bowls Tour title in the 2012 final.
In the semi-finals, Brett defeated fellow Englishman Les Gillett 10-7, 10-3, while Foster edged out England’s Greg Harlow 6-5, 7-8, 2-1.
In the national over 60 • men’s double rink bowls competition, Peterborough defeated Grantham 50-29 to set up a match against Church Gresley on Sunday week.
But they were beaten 93Whittlesey 36 by the strong international-laden Spalding club in the Egham Trophy mixed event in which Stamford also suffered an 88-54 exit at the hands of Barwell.
•Viv Hempsell (Yaxley) has been installed as the new president of the Northants Women’s Bowling Federation.
She received the chain of office from outgoing president Chris Ford (Ketton) at the recentannual meeting. Elected officers include:Donald Steward Trophy captain Joan Robinson; Silver Jubilee Vase captain Ann Cooper.
•The Yaxley club will host the two home Silver Jubilee Vase fixtures next year instead of the City of Peterborough club, which will now be the venue for the Donald Steward matches, having replaced Ketton.

With Graham Agger unavailable, team captain Malcolm Squires will skip Mike Ramsden and Mick Greaves, with Mick Duell taking over Agger’s rink of John Holroyd and Cliff Watson.
