It’s fair to say it was not the best of weekends to get out and wet a line. In fact the conditions were so bad some of the better anglers from the area struggled to put even a few fish in the net.

So hats off to all the youngsters who turned up to fish the last junior match of the year at Float Fish Farm Fishery.

The match was fished on the Phoenix Pool which saw Mia Beckett take home the Under 10s prize with a weight of 3lb 10oz.

In the 11-to-14 year olds it was a close run affai. Top rod with a very respectable 12lb 11oz was Oliver Frances, who caught on a small feeder fished close up to the island with pellet hook bait.

Bradley Liddle came second with 9lb 12oz, followed by Josh Sherwood on 8lb 12oz. A big well done to match organiser Michael Brooker who managed to get one of the giant companies in the fishing tackle trade, Dynamite Baits, to put up several prizes and several local anglers also gifted money prizes.

Yaxley, Farcet and Holme

• DAC fished their Fur and Feather match at The Bower, and despite the harsh upstream wind results were very good.

Club stalwart John Furnell caught a big perch on his first cast and followed that up with 10 quality roach. Fishing at six metres, Furnell used red maggot and pinkie for his top weight of 5lb 13 1/2oz.

Runner-up Ivan Marriott caught 5lb 7oz and in third place with 4lb 8 ½ oz was Lionel Whaley.

Tydd Gote legend Don

Green showed everyone a clean pair of heels at the Wednesday Open on the North Level at Main Road with an impressive 19lb 4oz from peg 4.

Don is usually content with catching big nets of roach on his favourite hemp and tares, but he decided tench were the order of the day and found four good fish and a sprinkling of silvers for his leading weight. Runner-up Dennis Houghton was pegged close to the bridge and caught 10lb 15oz. Archie Greenwood was third with 8lb.

The Sunday Club Match at Main Road was won by Andrew Kilby with 8lb 9oz, from Pete Emery, 5lb 15oz and Dave Simmonds, 5lb 4oz.

With the River Welland

once again performing well tackle dealer Alex Bates decided the time was right to run a proper match and despite conditions being far from ideal some cracking weights were taken.

Leading the way with 21lb 8oz was Alistair Ogilvie who caught on two pole lines fishing bread punch and feeding heavily with groundbait. In second place with 15lb 6oz was Keiran Cook, followed by Rob Hewison with a level 15lb.

Castaways AC fished one

of the Ramsey AS controlled waters and Pete Molesworth put a very respectable 18lb to the scales, a net of small fish taken on the pole with pinkies.

In second place with 12lb 2oz was Gary Curtis and then in third came Dan Curtis on 11lb 4oz.
