World titles for Atlanta in Cork and two kata medals for Casey
Martial Arts - Plenty of success for karate kings and queens
Two black belts from Hicks Karate School of Excellence competed in the 2019 ISKA World Championships in Cork, Ireland - winning two gold medals, two silvers and a bronze.
Earlier in the year the Peterborough school saw 16 members qualify at the ISKA British Championships, held in Birmingham.
Both Miss Atlanta Hickman, one of their instructors, and student Casey Stone took advantage of this great opportunity to join the 2019 British team.
Sensei Andrew Hicks said: “We are hugely proud of our student and instructor representing our country as part of team ISKA England as well as our school.
“It’s always a pleasure adding world titles to our school and Miss Hickman has worked tirelessly in the last couple of years on her own sparring and competing.
“Putting in the hours in her own classes as well as teaching and ensuring she gains plenty of mat time competing.
“No-one deserves this more and coming home with the double in her own weight class is a true representation of her work ethic and talent.”
Atlanta now has two world titles. She is the proud double gold medallist World Champion in ladies’ points sparring black belts under 62kg and light continuous in ladies black belts under 62kg.
She also brought home a silver medal in an under 67kg light continuous class as well fighting above her weight.
Casey won a silver medal and a bronze in her kata sections.
Sensei Hicks added: “Casey favours katas , but kata competitions locally are few and far between. This doesn’t stop her and she will attend every competition for experience in a competitive setting.
“Putting in a lot of work and private hours to perfect her technique, Casey shows her love for her skill and art with every event. A silver and bronze for weapon and open hand is a huge achievement at world level.”
