Hicks school are the series Grand Champions
The final of the 2019 Peterborough Championship Series event, which started in early February, has taken place.
Hicks Karate School have been leading the way since the first event and stretched further ahead after each one, winning the overall Grand Championship schools cup with 896 points with Evolution Kenpo from Jersey in second place on 604 points.
Standing out were Ravi Panchal, who won two golds and ended the day as Grand Champion in two divisions.
Sensei Andrew Hicks said: “The highlight of the day was when two of our instructors, Mr Hobbs and Mr Prior, made the finals against each other in the men’s veterans over 35 years old event
“They went point for point until the end with Mr Prior executing an outstanding sweep, then Mr Hobbs finishing the fight with a head kick and winning on the buzzer.
“Also well done to Denas Jankauskas for taking gold in the boys’ advanced sections as well as becoming grand champion and to Matthew Coulson and Arshan for having the courage to step on the the mats at their first major competition.”
“This has been an exciting year with students and instructors competing side by side, encouraging and supporting each other throughout. We can’t wait for next year to bring an even bigger, stronger team.”
The team won 11 golds, six silvers and four bronzes as well as six Grand Champions.
