DRUGS FACTORY RAID AT TRAVELLERS’ SITE
Woman (67) arrested as police seize cannabis plants and wild birds:
Drugs worth tens of thousands of pounds, as well as a cage full of birds were seized during a police raid at a travellers site in Peterborough.
A 67-year-old woman was arrested when the Peterborough and Fenland Neighbourhood Policing Teams paid a visit to a site in Oxney Road, Parnwell.
A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said they had received intelligence about illegal activity at the site, which allowed them to shut down the cannabis factory.
The factory had a total of 63 cannabis plants growing in it, worth a total of around £53,000. The drugs were found in several units at the site.
Officers also found evidence of the trapping of wild birds, with a cage of finches being taken away by the police team.
A dog was also removed from the site.
Officers from the Rural Crime Team who were supporting the warrant also seized a truck running on red diesel.
PC Paul Delmer said the operation had been a success andwouldhitorganisedcrime in the city hard. He said: “This find will cause significant disruption to organised crime and put a serious dent in their pockets.
“Drugs can ruin lives and bring associated crime to our communities. We are working hard to tackle them.
“We urge the public to continue to report any suspicious behaviour to us.”
The woman was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis, and has been released under investigation.
