Posh finally get their main man
The latest, and probably the last, Posh signing of the season is thrilled to be playing for a manager who clearly rates him.
Sammie Szmodics, a target for Posh boss Darren Ferguson in the summer, has moved to London Road on loan from Championship side Bristol City until the end of the season. Szmodics chose City ahead of Posh in the summer after both clubs had agreed a fee with League Two side Colchester United for the attacking midfielder.
The 24 year-old made his Posh debut at Wimbledon last weekend when he had chances to claim a hat-trick. He then went off with cramp in the second-half of Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Wycombe.
Szmodics only started two matches for City.
Szmodics said: “My finishing was rusty at Wimbledon, but that will come. I loved the win on Tuesday though.
“When I found out Posh wanted me I jumped at the chance. Players want to play for managers who rate them and I have that here.
“I did speak to the manager in the summer, but it was hard to turn the Championship down. It’s a big jump from League Two to the Championship though, and they have ome top players at Bristol City so this move seems like a good one for me.
“I want to go back there next season and show what I can do, but for now I want to play well for Posh and help them get them into the Championships as well. I guarantee I will work my socks off.
“I talk, I like to get at players and score and create goals, and I’m confident we can have a good end to the season.”
Ferguson was delighted to finally get his man, if only temporarily.
“Sammie is a very good player,” Ferguson said. “He can play anywhere in the middle of the park in the attacking areas, but he is predominantly one that can play centrally.
“He is a player I have liked for a long time.”
