Farmer praised for community work
Regional award success for Judith
A leading farmer in Peterborough has won a regional award in recognition of her contribution to the community.
Judith Jacobs, who operates a 600-acre mixed farm in Newborough, hosts regular school visits at her arable and livestock farm and champions British food and the Red Tractor logo at shows and events.
Now she has been named regional winner of this year’s Meurig Raymond Award launched two years ago to highlight the work that grassroots members of the National Farmers’ Union carry out for the union and the wider community.
She said: “I’m surprised and delighted to receive this award.
“I’m incredibly proud to be a farmer, and I think it’s so important that we engage with the public and talk about what goes on beyond the farm gate.
“I’m particularly passionate about hosting school visits. The children get so much out of it, and it’s about building memories that will last a lifetime.”
Wheat, barley, oilseed rape, and mustard are grown at the farm, which also rears cows and sheep and features a shop selling the farm’s produce and other local goods. Judith also helps organise the largest Open Farm Sunday event in the country, and is a founder member of Ladies in Beef and promotes British produce on social media,
NFU Regional Director Rachel Carrington said: “Judith is a worthy winner. She has been a strong supporter of NFU campaigns for well over a decade, from cooking burgers in Peterborough in support of our Farming Charter, to featuring in our Thank You for Buying British video.”
