Runners take deep puddles and the mud in their stride

The mud and the puddles were knee deep in places at Wollaton Park, Nottingham on Saturday for the English National Cross Country Championsh­ip, writes Barry Warne.

The Peterborou­gh Nene Valley athletes took these in their stride and delivered some fine performanc­es.

Under 15s Kai Chilvers, who finished 28th, and Harry Hewitt in 43rd were the highest placed. Under 17 Owen Wilkinson finished 52nd, leading his team to 14th and Charlotte Cullen was 67th in the girls under 15 race.

Alex Hampson was the leading Peterborou­gh Nene Valley man in 168th place, while Sarah Caskey placed 194th in the senior ladies.

Ewan Davidson finished 48th in the Scottish National Cross Country Championsh­ip

Last week Davidson ran a 5k PB of 15:01 when placing 146th in the Armagh Internatio­nal Road Race.
