A sizzling 10-try display from the Borough Boys at Fengate

Rugby union - City side rack up their biggest win of the season

Peterborou­gh RUFC put on a sizzling 10-try show to condemn Wellingbor­ough to relegation from Midlands Division One East.

The match at Fengate finished 79-5 with Zak McClure (2), Sam Crooks (2), Ross Chamberlai­n (2), Tom McClure, Ryan Morris, Chris Sykes and Aram Jones the Borough try scorers.

Rob Jacobs kicked the other 29 points for Borough who face mush stiffer opposition this weekend as they travel to third-placed Derby.

Borough fancy a third straight win though as they drew with Derby at Fengate earlier in the season and they are playing much better now.

Peterborou­gh Lions • have been freshened up by a two-week break, but they will need to be at their very best to get anything from a Midlands Premier Division trip to Sandbach on Saturday. Lions are sitting at the bottom of the table with one point.

Stamford kept up the • pressure on Midlands Division

Three East leaders Oakham with a resounding 53-5 win over Rishden and Higham as Rees Burns claimed a hat-trick of tries. Stamford are at rock bottom St Neots on Saturday, a side crushed 72-5 at Spalding last weekend. Harry Sharman crossed for three tries in that match.

Stamford College Old •

Boys moved up to third in Midlands Division Four East by winning a derby game at Thorney 28-12.

Ten players from the • girls’ section at Peterborou­gh Rugby Club were in action for the East Midlands representa­tive side on Sunday.

Jasmine Murray and Jorja Matchwick starred as the under 18s beat the Notts-LincsDerby­shire region 15-5 and then enjoyed a 33-10 victory over Eastern Counties.

There was not such good news for the under 15s though, a squad that included Abbie Sullivan, Bella Markham, Charlotte Fosbeary, Holley Ross, Leah Lilley, Liberty Ashdown, Ruby ‘Bob’ James and Steffanie Jenkins from Borough.

They lost their matches against the same opposition 29-31 and 14-19.
