Fans’ favourite Ulrich Ostergaard is the final piece of the Peterborough Panthers jigsaw . . . as he joins the oldest skidders in town!
The veteran Danish racer has been handed a reserve berth by the city club for the new SGB Premiership season which starts later this month.
And it’s a case of title-winning countrymen reunited with Ostergaard joining fellow 2006 league winners Niels Kristian Iversen and Hans Andersen back at the East of England Arena.
Ostergaard also had brief stints with the club in 2007 and 2010 before serving them well throughout their fiveseason spell down in the SGB Championships from 2014 to 2018.
And he was then back again towards the end of last season when some high-scoring showings at reserve ensured he staked a claim for a 2020 return.
“Everyone knows what this club means to me,” said Ostergaard.
“I’ve always loved riding here, I’ve always had a great relationship with the fans and I’m over the moon to be back again.
“Peterborough is my home in England and I can’t wait to be riding on the superb Showground track again.
“I really like the look of the team that has been put together and I feel sure we can have a good season.
“It’s great to have three other Danes in there. Myself, Hans,NielsandTofty(Michael Palm Toft) all get on great and I’m sure there will loads of competition between ourselves.
“I can’t wait to get started. I’ve worked hard in the winter and I’m feeling good. I definitely believe I can score good points in the Premiership.”
Ostergaard, who will also race for Glasgow in the sport’s second tier, completes a Panthers side oozing with experience.
The combined age of the Dane and fellow reserve Scott Nicholls is 79!
Nicholls is the oldest member of the team at 41 while Andersen (39), Iversen (37) and Chris Harris (37) are other long-standing stars in the sport.
The team is completed by 30 year-old Aussie ace Rohan Tungate and ‘youngster’ Palm Toft (29).
All seven men feature in the season-opening 50th anniversary individual meeting at Alwalton on Sunday, March 15 (2pm start) alongside former Panthers stars like current British champion Charles Wright, Simon Lambert and Erik Grondel.
The club’s first competitive meeting follows on March 19 when they host King’s Lynn in the SGB Premiership Supporters’ Cup.
