Spirit Leaders will help spread humility, intuition and passion
Ten sixth form students at Abbey College have been appointed Spirit Leaders, a role that will see the students promote the school’s Spirit across their own chosen year group once pupils return.
Last year, the academy established the Abbey College Spirit, a set of virtues that underpins the school community. The spirit comprises of three key virtues: humility, intuition and passion.
The Spirit Leaders’ role will be to encourage this mentality by leading student voice groups, running inter-form competitions, keeping students updated in assemblies and more.
Andy Christoforou, Headteacher at Abbey College, said: “We are delighted to have appointed such hardworking and caring students to become our Spirit Leaders at Abbey College. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to contribute something significant and lasting to the life of the college. Congratulations to the ten students who have been chosen.”
In order to be considered, student applicants needed to write a one-sided letter, containing their suitability for the position and outline their vision for the role. From there, the students were interviewed, with two successful candidates eventually being chosen to represent each year group from Year 7 to Year 11.
The chosen Spirit Leaders are:
Year 7 - Kiera-Lyn and Tegan; Year 8 - Zoe and Amber; Year 9 - Lorna and Mithushan;
Year 10 - Emma and Emily; Year 11 - Olivia and Ava
The role will put the students in a position to apply to be Head Girl or Head Boy next year, as well as set them above other candidates for university or job applications.
