The Peterborough Evening Telegraph
Presenters feel at home broadcasting
The current Coronavirus Pandemic is affecting everybody in all sorts of ways and for some of the presenters at PCRFM getting down to the studio is now ruled out for health reasons.
In these difficult times it’s even more important that the station tries to keep the people of Peterborough in touch with the latest local information and luckily with today’s technology it’s able to broadcast live shows directly from presenter’s homes.
Soft Rock Sunday presenter Keith Hazelton Pictured) was the pioneer in testing out the system, set up by the station’s tech guru, Steve Durham. Using two computers – a desktop PC and a laptop – Keith was able to remotely connect to the studio at The Herlington Centre in Orton Malborne. One computer was used to send his voice and one to control the music output. The system means that presenters can get their shows sounding like they’re still in the radio station.
Since Keith’s online, onair tests, both Skip Stewart’s Midday Show and Drivetime have made the switch to live broadcasts remotely, and have joined the vast majority of people all over the city who are now working from home.
By using this method, PCRFM are determined to carry on keeping Peterborough in touch with how the Pandemic is affecting us locally.
The shows, together with David Edgeworth’s local news bulletins on the hour, will be focussing on information about support services to the community, local companies who are available to deliver much needed supplies –such as King Brothers (www.kingbros.co.uk), Stilton Butchers (www.stiltonbutchers. co.uk), and The Fenland Roaster (www.thefenlandroaster.co.uk) – and also things to do while you’re staying at home to keep occupied. From teasers and quizzes, to online Theatre Streaming from Lamphouse Theatre (www.lamphousetheatre.co.uk), we’re keeping you all updated.
Our schedule remains broadly the same, so you can still find your favourites on the airwaves:
Peterborough’s Most Wanted will be playing classic live sets from previous shows on Monday Nights, Doc Mason will be playing the very best of local bands on Thursday Nights, our technical pioneer Keith Hazelton has a new Late Show on Wednesday Nights from 9pm, and ever popular LockIn Show are presenting their unique brand of the eclectic ‘semi live from and undisclosed Folly on the grounds of PCRFM Towers’.
PCRFM is your truly local radio station, and, thanks to Keith’s test broadcasts, and Steve’s behind the scene’s technical wizardry, we are here for you more than ever.
Have you a local community story you think we should be talking about, get in touch on www.pcrfm. co.uk, and give us a listen on 103.2FM .
