Peterborough Phantoms have persuaded another star man to re-sign for the 2020-21 National Ice Hockey League season.

Corey McEwen, the popular winner of the club’s player-ofthe year prize for 2019-20 has committed to a third straight season at Planet Ice.

He joins star netminder Jordan Marr, Will Weldon, Tom Norton, Nathan Pollard, Callum Buglass and Bradley Bowering as players from another strong campaign to resign for Phantoms.

Phantoms have also picked up former Great Britain youth skipper Luc Johnson from divisional rivals Swindon Wildcats.

Phantoms coach Slava Koulikov was delighted to land one of his main men from the aborted 2019-20 season.

Koulikov said: “I am really happy Corey is back with us.

“He is one of the most professional players I have ever worked with.

“His attention to detail is contagious and rubs off on the rest of the players, especially our young guys.

“Corey’s speed and offensive threat is lethal and can change the direction of a game at any moment.

“In the last two seasons he has been involved in scoring and setting up some really crucial goals in big games for our team and played a big part in our historic treble (2018-19).

“I also love Corey’s attitude and will to improve to become a complete hockey player. If we compare his last two seasons, his offensive production improved for sure but, most importantly, his two-way game and on-ice awareness went through the roof.”

McEwen expects another strong challenge for silverware in 2020-21. He said: “It feels special to sign for a third year. I am really looking forward to progressing in my hockey career alongside Slava and my team-mates.

“I believe we will have a strong team next season, competing for all silverware.

“Our fans are going to enjoy some good ice hockey next season.”
