Standards need improving

I am reaching out the authorities who are in charge of the standards and conditions of pedestrian crossings across our city of Peterborough.

As you may have seen in the recent few months there have been an increase in traffic accidents at our pedestrian crossings, where vehicles have hit pedestrians in using these crossings..

I would like to raise the issue that these pedestrian crossings need updating, and brought up to date with current lighting and reflections suitable for daytime and evening use.

One example is the pedestrian crossing at the front of Thistlemoor Medical Centre and Grahams Chemist where an elderly neighbour was hit by a delivery van. I campaigned for three long years to

get that single crossing moved a few feet away from the direct corner of Thistlemoor Road and creating an island in the centre as well as much improved lighting, flashing lights.

Since that pedestrian crossing was upgraded not one single accident occurred there.

I also want to request that safer speed zones be in place as when you approach a pedestrian crossing - may it be the new developments at the Rhubarb Bridge roundabout x 4, or the one on Lincoln Road where a pedestrian and quad bike rider were injured.

So in short,

1. Update/ up grade our current pedestrian crossings around Peterborough.

2. repaint the pedestrian crossing zones

3. improve the lighting/ flashing lights of the pedestrian crossings

4. drop the speed zones at these pedestrian crossings to lessen the risks of critical injury or death.
