Teenage boys and man charged after three hurt on city street

Three face accusation­s of assault and having weapons in public

A man and two teenage boys have been charged in connection with violence in Dogsthorpe on Thursday morning (May 21).

Police were called to Welland Road at 10.35am following reports that a number of people had been assaulted and weapons had been used.

A 14-year-old boy, a 35-yearold woman and a 40-year-old man were injured and required hospital treatment.

A 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with assault occasionin­g actual bodily harm (ABH), affray and possession of a knife in a public place.

Another 14-year-old boy, who again cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, affray, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place – namely a claw hammer, and possession of an imitation firearm in a public place.

Dariusz Rzenski, 33, of Lowick Gardens, Westwood, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, affray, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place – namely a baton, and possession of an imitation firearm in a public place.

They were all remanded in custody to appear at Huntingdon Magistrate­s’ Court on Saturday (23 May).

As the incident unfolded on Thursday police closed Cedar Grove, Figtree Walk and Welland Road after reports of violence. A number of ambulances also attended scene.

People were advised to avoid the area.

Peterborou­gh City Hospital initiated its lockdown procedures after being alerted by the police.

A spokeswoma­n for the hospital said: “We activated our lockdown procedure at just after 11am today as a precaution­ary measure following informatio­n from Cambridges­hire Police.

“There was an initial delay for patients coming for appointmen­ts being granted access to the building, but this is now resolved.’’
