Concern over school return

Nearly 42 per cent of PT readers who took part in our latest Lockdown Survey says they are not comfortabl­e sending their children back to school next week.

Across the country 12,000 people responded to the Bank Holiday weekend snap survey on a range of issues related to lockdown.

In the PT area on sending children back to school: 11.6% were very comfortabl­e, 12.2% were somewhat comfortabl­e, 7.56% were not very comfortabl­e and 34% were not at all comfortabl­e. The remaining were not sure or it was not applicable.

We asked readers how comfortabl­e did they personally feel about the prospect of doing certain things.

The vast majority were comfortabl­e visiting family and meeting up with a small group of friends.

Returning to work was a mixed picture but the reaction against using public transport was strong.

Outside of education we asked:

Visiting family - 38.37% were very comfortabl­e, 33.14% were somewhat comfortabl­e, 14.53% were not very comfortabl­e and 12.79% were not at all comfortabl­e. The remainder were not sure or not applicable.

Meeting up with a small group of friends - 22.09% were very comfortabl­e, 32.56% were somewhat comfortabl­e, 26.16% were not very comfortabl­e and 19.19% were not at all comfortabl­e. The remainder were not sure or not applicable.

Returning to your place of work - 22.67% were comfortabl­e, 17.4% were somewhat comfortabl­e, 15.07% were not very comfortabl­e and 20.93% were not at all comfortabl­e. The remainder were not sure or not applicable.

We also asked to what extent do you think allowing each of the following to take place poses a risk of a second wave of coronaviru­s infections?

Taking public transport 42% said there was a very high risk, 29.5% said a high risk, 18.9% were a moderate risk and 2.96% were very low risk

Schools re-opening 31.95% were very high risk, 18.34% were high risk, 26.04% were moderate risk, 13% low risk and 8.8% very low risk

Workplaces re-opening - 14.2% were very high risk, 25.4% high risk, 40.2% moderate risk, 8.8% low risk and 7.1% very low risk

Meeting up with a small group of friends - 11.8% were very high risk,18.9% high risk, 37.8% moderate risk, 21.3% low risk and 8% very low risk

Visiting family -7.1% were very high risk, 5.9% high risk, 39% moderate risk, 35.5% low risk, 11.24% very low risk.
