Sports chief is concerned about next season

-

Peterborough Sports FC chairman Grant Biddle is concerned step three football might not return until the new year.

The city side were top of the Southern League Premier Division Central when the 2019-20 season was aborted with all promotions and relegations scrapped.

Sports fancy another title tilt in 2020-21, but there is confusion as to when the season will start and in what format.

Biddle said: “If you’re an optimist you think the season might start in September/October, but a pessimist is thinking January/ February.

“I have low optimism because I can’t get my head around how football will work at our level.

“We can’t test players every week like they are planning in the Football League and social distancing is an issue for spectators and for players. How can you be socially distant in a defensive wall or at corners for instance?

“I have agreed a budget with our manager Jimmy Dean for next season, but it is still very difficult to plan properly as we don’t know when the season will start and we don’t know in what format.

“Presumably the season will be truncated if we start late.”

Dean is confident he will retain the vast majority of his playing squad from last season and he is hoping to make a couple of additions.

Star man, and reigning Peterborough Telegraph Footballer of the Year, former Colchester player Dion Sembie-Ferris has already committed for next season when Sports will face the same opposition as in 2019-20.
