STREAMING

Nobody Knows I’m Here Netflix, from June 24

This compelling drama is both heartbreaking and uplifting. Lost star Jorge Garcia heads the cast as Memo Garrido, who lives on a remote sheep farm, largely cut off from the rest of society. But his life wasn’t always like that. As a child, his beautiful singing voice seemed destined to bring him stardom – but as Memo was overweight, he was forced to perform behind a screen while another more conventionally handsome boy took the credit. Traumatised by his brush with fame, Memo has retreated from the outside world. However, a chance encounter with a young woman looks set to return him to the limelight – does Memo have the confidence to grab the opportunity, or is he destined for a life in the shadows?

TV

Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow

ITV, 7.30pm, Saturday

Alan Carr (left) has made a great job of breathing new life into some old game show classics, including Bruce Forsyth’s beloved ratings favourite Play Your Cards Right, The Price is Right, and Take Your Pick. The latest offering, Strike It Lucky, is no exception. Three pairs of players will be choosing the top, middle or bottom as they navigate their way across several screens, trying not to let their greed stop them banking too many prizes, and avoiding the hotspots. One pair will reach the endgame, where they stand to win assorted prizes and a luxury Las Vegas holiday. And “Epic” is right, because compared to the original show, which ran from 1986 to 1999, this high definition revamp is a feast for the eyes.

FILM

Book Club

Channel 4, 9pm, Saturday

Best friends Diane (Diane Keaton), Vivian (Jane Fonda), Sharon (Candice Bergen) and Carol (Mary Steenburgen) merrily reunite each month over glasses of chilled white wine to discuss a book chosen by one member of the coterie. Hotel manager Vivian elects to introduce her shocked pals to Christian Grey’s notorious Red Room in EL James’s erotic thriller Fifty Shades of Grey. It inspires them in different ways, as doting wife Carol tries to invigorate her marriage, while Sharon is persuaded to sign up to an internet dating site. Vivian has a chance encounter with old flame Arthur (Don Johnson) and recently widowed Diane is swept off her feet by airline captain Mitchell (Andy Garcia). The leading ladies are luminous, and they enliven a plodding script, injecting vim into the scenes of sisterly solidarity.
