BRAVE OSCAR DOING WELL AFTER MAJOR SURGERY

Family overwhelmed by fundraising support

Brave eight-month-old Oscar Wright, who has been diagnosed with Sturge Webber Syndrome, faced his biggest challenge yet – 11 hour brain surgery.

Surpassing all odds, Oscar’s immediate recovery has been positive. Doting mum Bethanie Rollings said: “He has had some intense swelling which was expected but other than that he is recovering really well. We were told to expect that his left side would be completely paralysed and he would be unable to move it. So it was a shock that not even 24 hours after he was out of theatre he moved his left leg and arm!”

His parents, Beth and Tim ‘overwhelmingly grateful’ for the support that came, as their GoFundMe page surpassed their £3,500 target within days of the PT article.

Beth, from Crowland, said: “Having this overwhelming support from everyone has really touched Tim. I know he is shocked by how many people truly love Oscar and want to see him do well. It relieves some stress about how we will cope throughout the months and staying in London.”

As Beth and Tim currently are unable to gain parent accommodation, one parent at a time has been making countless trips to Great Ormond Street Hospital, where Oscar is being treated. Sadly, both parents are not allowed to stay or visit due to Coronavirus measures in place.

Beth and Tim are hoping the surgery stops Oscar’s seizures, which were uncontrollable on any epilepsy medication. Beth said: “We don’t know what the future holds. We know his left hand will be used more as a ‘helping hand’ and won’t be how you or I use our hands. He will also not be able to use his foot again so he may have to wear a splint. He’s having regular physio so hopefully one day he will be able to walk like any other child.”

The proud parents who ‘see themselves as a little team’ have a long road ahead but are incredibly happy at their little boys progress. To donate: https://uk.gofundme.com/f/ oscars-army
