Peterborough’s university

-

Peterborough’s new university plans took a huge step forward this week. It has been a far from smooth journey to get to this point to say the least but, credit where it’s due, the foundations of the project are at last in place. Newly announced partners Anglia Ruskin University have a vision for a university that services the local economy and looks ahead to supporting a post pandemic economy giving opportunities to students from Peterborough and across the region. It’s crucial for the city that it has a university - and is seen to be a ‘university city’. So my only personal disappointment was the name... Anglia Ruskin University Peterborough. Is it not possible to be the University of Peterborough (Anglia Ruskin)? Pushing Peterborough’s brand is one of the important bonuses of the university project. Perhaps, in time, the name will be changed and UoP will become a reality. For now though, maybe that shouldn’t distract from what is real progress. We all look forward to work starting, students arriving and momentum building.
